UK rail industry & transport sector project delivery background
Arriva Rail London is the train operating company responsible for running the London Overground network under a Concession Agreement with Transport for London (TfL). The seven and half year concession commenced on 13 November 2016.
London Overground was launched in 2007 to provide better connections between areas outside of central London. The network covers 112 stations across six routes. In 2016/17 more than 189 million journeys were made on London Overground.

MTR Elizabeth line (MTREL) is the train operating company responsible for running the London Elizabeth Line network under a Concession Agreement with Transport for London (TfL). On 31 May 2015, MTR Elizabeth line commenced operation of services between Liverpool Street and Shenfield under the interim TfL Rail branding as part of the TfL network while work continues on the building of the new tunnels, stations, station improvements and trains along the Elizabeth line. MTR Crossrail was rebranded as MTR Elizabeth line and TfL Rail as mentioned below became the (TfL) Elizabeth line. 4.1 million journeys are now made each week.
TfL Rail was the concession which operated commuter services on two separate railway lines in London while the Central Crossrail construction project to link East and West was underway. It ran from May 2015 until May 2022, upon the opening of the Crossrail central section, when TfL Rail was rebranded as Elizabeth line and the name was discontinued.
